Western Region
This is the Western Region, home to contemporary highlife greats such as Paapa Yankson, C.K. Mann, Gyedu Blay Ambolley and the likes. The rich ocean front coupled with the animated history and a very lively people make the West coast a must-see destination.
Being the region with the highest rainfall it should not surprise you that it has 24 reserves representing diverse flora and fauna all waiting to be developed. Takoradi, its capital is itself reminiscent of world war days were it served as an airplane assembly base for the British war campaign.
Its old houses and seaport remind you that this was once an important city in the country’s early days of development. Nonetheless the presence of new accommodation facilities springing up on account of the off-shore oil find has meant the city has a new lease of life and in the evenings it is a sight to behold. Away from the brightligts of the city you can make the daring (because the road is not good) trip to quaint beach towns like Butre, Princess town, Akwidaa and Axim. But surely you wouldn’t want to leave the Western Region without visiting Nzulezo, a village famous for its location on water.
Getting there
You can get to Takoradi by fight and bus from Accra and Kumasi. The habour has lately become a landing park for number of tourist cruise liners.
