Things to do - general

They don’t call it the country’s tourism heartbeat for nothing! The evidence lies in the alluring beaches, rich heritage and spectacular festivals and you will have little doubt in your mind why Ghana’s tourism revolves around this region.

Nestled in this region’s borders are over 800 years of history of European contact and you can’t afford to miss the obvious tell-tale signs of European occupation from the imposing structures to the names and local folklore.

CR is a tale of opposites: from the swinging treetop canopies at the Kakum Park to the stable shores washed by the Atlantic Ocean; from the sad story of the Slave trade in Assin Manso and Cape Coast and Elmina CR to the happy vibrant festivals of Fetu and Aboakyer, a visitor can get exposed to these different shades of life.

Cape Coast, the regional capital was until 1877 the national capital and is a town known for its delicacies in cooking. You can also visit Saltpond to understand the modern day political arrangements and will be surprised to know that Elmina not only hosted the Portuguese but also Kwame Nkrumah, the brave African independence activist who started life as a teacher at the Catholic Seminary. All these make the region the perfect hub for leisure and culture travel.

Getting to Cape Coast, the regional capital is very easy and is easily accessible by road from Accra the capital (2-3 hours), Kumasi (4-5 hours) and Takoradi (1 hour)
