Keta Lagoon Complex Ramser Site
The Keta Lagoon Complex covers management area of 1200km² and lagoon area of 300km². It has been established as a wetland protected area (Ramsar site) protecting thousands of migratory birds, the mangrove forest and breeding grounds of sea turtle constituting the fourth most important waterbirds site on the Gulf of Guinea coast.
There are supports over 60,000 waterbirds with at least 72 species of resident and migratory birds to spot. Admire watching how aquatic reeds harvested by women into are turned into bags, mats and other handicrafts.
Though the site is not fully developed, you will enjoy having fun as you join in sailing and fishing, cycling, beach volleyball and jogging as sports with the locals.
Getting there
Keta Lagoon is about 140 km east- northeast of Accra and few kilometers east of the Volta river estuary.
Find regular trotro that run Accra to Keta on daily basis. It is also easily accessible from the regional
capital of Ho.
